FAQ - Questions and answers

Yes, the power losses due to soiling are often underestimated. According to reports from the field, they amount to between 10 and 30%. It should no longer be a secret that regular cleaning of solar and photovoltaic systems is necessary. Almost every system should be cleaned at some point during its service life. It makes sense to clean part of a module with a white cloth to assess the degree of soiling.

Low roof pitch: A low roof pitch means that dust and dirt are not only "washed" off the modules by the rain. This causes a film of dirt to build up, especially at the lower edge.
Agricultural operations: Agricultural operations are heavily affected by the use of heavy machinery and poultry and fattening stables also have to contend with soiling.
Bird droppings: Bird droppings are pretty much the most stubborn thing that can accumulate; this can also lead to etching of the modules.
Other environmental influences include pollen, soot, vehicle exhaust fumes, leaves, tree needles (resin), moss, algae, lichen, lime and much more: In spring, pollen and pollen settle on the modules. If your system is located near trees, leaves and tree needles are also a risk of soiling. Or think of a busy road - the exhaust fumes from cars settle on the modules. Over time, moss can also build up on the edges of the frame and slowly grow into the module.

Definitely yes. Nowhere are profits given away as carelessly as in the photovoltaic sector! There is hardly any other economic field in which profits and losses can be calculated so quickly and easily. Simply by measuring before and after cleaning. With some systems, the yield loss is up to 30 %. This means that the system produces 30 % less electricity and therefore generates 30 % less feed-in remuneration. - Only clean modules maximise performance & yield.

No. The SOLA-TECS cleaning systems are designed exclusively for this purpose and therefore cannot cause any damage. On the contrary. Residue-free cleaning protects the materials in the long term and prevents them from being exposed to the sometimes aggressive dirt components. The use of demineralised water prevents limescale stains and the "pure water" is receptive to dirt. No stripping and drying of the cleaned surface, all without chemical cleaning agents! We use DI resin filters to demineralise the water. Click here for the test report: http://www.sola-tecs.com/images/pdf/Pruefberichte/Bericht_SOLA-TECS.pdf

There is no general answer to this question. It depends on the location of the system, for example. In rural areas, cleaning every 2 years may be worthwhile. For large systems on agricultural buildings or in the immediate vicinity of farms, annual cleaning is generally advisable - in the case of heavy soiling on stables, cleaning twice a year can even bring a higher return.

Rainwater is one solution. If this is not available, the household water is demineralised using a DI resin filter. Demineralised or demineralised water is water that no longer contains any salts, ions or minerals. Demineralised water is obtained using an ion exchanger (DI resin filter).
